Pre Inked Stamps

Perhaps the most common utilisation of rubber stamps worldwide is at airports. If you have travelled outside of the EU the chances are you have a stamp or stamps from the country or countries you have visited. Another area in which custom stamps are predominant are on company documents, the signature of a leading person within the company is generally not sufficient and a stamp of some description is required to guarantee the document’s authenticity for legal and contractually binding purposes. The use of these stamps is particularly widespread across Asia and is known as the ‘company chop.’ The stamps usually detail an address, company logo or something similar. A number of stamps have movable parts which allow the ‘stamper’ to adjust the date or perhaps the wording. In big companies they are still utilised for many purposes outside of the world of legal documents and are often used for confirming receipt of mail, to provide information or to provide additional information for mail that is due to be dispatched. Letterboxing

A leisure pursuit associated with custom stamps is Letterboxing. Letterboxing combines an element of orienteering and progress is measured by collecting various pre inked stamps at various locations, the locations for this pursuit are varied and countrywide but the most well known circuit takes place on Dartmoor in Southwest England. The rugged and sometimes challenging terrain is an ideal setting for this hobby and can be carried out by people of all ages; it is increasingly becoming a favourite family weekend activity. A small letterbox containing a stamp and a signing book is hidden somewhere is the vast expanse of Moorland, clues to its location may be a simple map reference, a list of compass bearings or something more cryptic. When a letterbox is found by a person they take a stamp and also leave their own rubber stamps in the visitors’ book. This phenomenon is said to have begun in 1854 when a Dartmoor guide named Mr Perrott placed a glass receptacle in a relatively isolated area known as Cranmere Pool, people who made it up to this considerable elevation were invited to leave their name in the receptacle as a record of their achievement. By the early 20th century the glass container was replaced by a tin box and a visitors’ book was provided. In the mid 1930’s a local newspaper placed a granite box at the site and followed this with a second structure at Ducks Pool, this was followed in later years with the introduction of stamps and evolved into a fully fledged leisure pursuit by the mid 1950’s.

Custom Stamps

The storage of stamps is sometimes overlooked but care must be taken to ensure that they are kept out of direct sunlight or excessive humidity. Another issue of storage aside from the climatic considerations are the security issues. rubber stamps, particularly those used to authenticate official documentation should be stored securely; there is always a possibility that they could be used in fraudulent activities. A commonly asked question is, ‘Do we charge extra to produce a stamp from a customer’s submitted artwork?’ The answer is a refreshing no. The stamp prices do not depend on what is on the stamp but on how the big stamp is. We accept both JPEG and PNG file formats to produce a bespoke stamp but please note that the resolution of any graphic upload is 600dpi. It should also be noted that we cannot upload Excel, Word or Powerpoint artwork as these programs do not create graphic formats and as a result make them unworkable. When sending text, please ensure that the font size is at least 6pt, any text smaller than this will result in the lines being too fine and ultimately shorten the life of the stamp. We can also turn your signature into a stamp print providing the file has a resolution of 300-600pi, please ensure this stamp is stored securely at all times on your premises, the potential consequences of this stamp falling into unscrupulous hands are obvious.

A Seal of Approval

As previously mentioned your company stamp is effectively an official seal and should only be issued to pre approved staff members and should be secured in the same manner as company cheque books and purchase ledger details.
